When a person is missing one, or several teeth, Dental Implants are a wonderful way to anchor replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. They can also be used to secure loose dentures.
Dental Implants are one of the greatest services we can offer our patients and they are changing the way people live! With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life. Whether you need a single tooth, several teeth or all of your teeth replaced, dental implants can make a world of difference for you.
While most dentists only restore implants, Dr. Barber has extensive training and experience in both placing and restoring dental implants. Most patients feel this is more convenient and saves time by allowing them to have everything done right here in our office.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are small titanium cylinders that are surgically placed in the jaw to replace missing teeth. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for a crown or as an attachment for a denture. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure; preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.
If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry may be a choice for you to replace missing teeth or to secure a loose denture, we invite you to call for a Complimentary Implant Consultation (x-rays not included). During the consultation visit, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by Dr. Barber. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.
The Dental Implant Procedure
Dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw. A time for healing (3-6 months) is allowed, followed by another minor surgical procedure where a small extension, called an abutment, is attached to the implant. It is to the abutment that a new crown (or denture) is fitted.
You should be able to wear temporary crowns or dentures and eat a soft diet during the healing time. Your new crown or denture will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics. Many times implants can be fitted to an existing set of dentures.
Though the process sounds terrible and complicated, most patients describe the experience as “uncomfortable”, (as opposed to painful) and most experience little to no disruption in their daily lives.
